Journal? Why on earth should I write a journal? - Sinead

I mean seriously, what is there to write about?

Nothing that fascinating happens in my life!

Take this week for example:

I refused my mothers request to join her on a dig in Egypt. She was furious, but there are more than enough poor university students who would love the opportunity of the first time dig experience! Besides, Mother forgets about disagreements by the next day... "The inscriptions on the tombs of 2500 year old mummies are soooooooo much more interesting than whatever my daughter was rambling on about yesterday!"

I found out about my father's new book when I was browsing in an university bookshop. When I rang to congratulate him I found out he was in the Amazon, studying the art of various tribes.

Now, don't get me wrong! I don't resent my parents or suffer from childhood neglect. I love them both and think they are the best parents in the world! Why? Because they treated me more like a much younger sibling or friend than their offspring which had to follow a long list of rules.

My internet keeps crashing (so annoying), must be something to do with New Zealand's limited Broadband (or something like that, I mean...what do I know about computers?!), not that I should say be saying anything negative about any country.

Speaking of New Zealand, it is so cold! They don't know how to insulate or heat their houses properly (well, I suppose since no-one is going to read this I can express some honest opinions about different countries).

Maybe I should start with some random information about me:

I was born in Germany, which is one of the reasons I decided to learn the language (the other being some diplomatic work I had to fulfil in Berlin).

I speak a lot of languages for several reasons
1. because I spent some time in the country as a child
2. because I spent some time in the country as an adult
3. because I hate not being able to communicate
4. because I have a general dislike of interpreters (now I sound mean)
5. because I can't cook (which means I eat my meals at street markets (I prefer knowing that I am about to eat deep-fried grasshoppers with mashed banana rice...others might disagree)

I am passionate about human rights, justice, and equality. For me this (somehow) boils down to stopping criminal activity.

Talking about myself this much will take some getting used to!
But I have got to go; NATO has been dragging out this situation in Libya for far too long (lets see if I can pull some strings).
