Harrods - Patty/Dan

Patty, as Gabriella Jane Larsen, was near the end of the second part of her first year of college. At the moment, she's supposed to be in a History class, but she could also be at Harrods shopping. Patty figured Carmen wouldn't mind if she slacked a little as long as her grades were good, so she ditched class to be with a friend, Holly, who lived with her ultra hip parents in Chelsea.

"Gabby," Holly said putting a Paul Smith gold pearls bracelet over her wrist, "What do you think of this?"

"Aww! Cute!" Patty's voice went up a pitch and she joined Holly by putting the bracelet on her own wrist too. Next on the display was a set of cufflinks in colorful stripes. One said "paul" the other said "smith". Patty wasn't really into mens' fashion, but she could see herself making those cufflinks work. So while Holly was talking to a salesperson, going on and on about how her mum has a collection of exactly the same blah blah, Patty swiped the cufflinks.

"We should totally go back," Patty said to Holly, "I actually have to pass my next class before the long weekend."

Daniel Ainsworth was in London visiting family and renewing his passport. After breakfast with his father and stepmother, he headed off to Hyde Park to try and finish "Surviving Worse Case Scenarios" a book he had purchased at the airport for its flashy cover. It didn't take long for him to realize that reading alone in the park really wasn't much fun at all, and Danny soon found himself aimlessly walking through Harrods. At the Paul Smith store, he heard a blond girl speaking in an American accent. She looked about his age, and was nodding along as her friend talked to the storekeeper. The ACME detective was about to walk away when all of a sudden, he saw her effortlessly sweep a pair of cufflinks right off the table, and into her purse.

As the blond proceeded to stroll out of the store, something came over him. Perhaps it was a sense of higher virtue, perhaps it was boredom, or perhaps he just wanted an excuse to chat up a pretty girl, but Danny decided to stop her.

"Hey!" He said, blocking her pathway. "You might want to give those cufflinks back."

Patty stared wide-eyed at the loser who totally had no business standing in her way.

"What cufflinks?" She asked, then before waiting for an answer, giggled. Holly giggled too. It didn't matter what they were laughing at, boys usually moved away to salvage their pride. This boy just stood there. Without really thinking much, Patty decided to take this boy by the arm. It was better than leaving him here in case he had some kind of hero gene and was going to expose her standing where he was.

"What's your name?" She said, after having dragged him a few feet from the store.

"Uh, Danny." He answered as he was led forward. Having the original plan turned on its head, Danny had to smile at the girl's ingenuity. She was more than a foot shorter than him and certainly lighter all around, but somehow acted like the ringmaster of everything around her. "So what do I call you?" He had to ask.

"Gabby, and this is my friend Holly," Patty shot a sweet reply.

"Right. Hey." Dan nodded a greeting to 'Gabby's' friend.

Being opportunistic, Patty knew she had this boy's attention and it would suck to let that go to waste. "Hey, Danny?" She put on her cutest grin, "wanna go grab a bite at the food hall?"

Danny felt more like he was being told than asked, but at the moment he wasn't acting completely against his own will. "You're pretty used to getting what you want, huh?"

"Totally," she nodded.

"Sushi? I just don't take you for the 'fish and chips', type."

"Too much kink, how about ice cream?" In front of them was already a stand advertising Italian Gelato.

"Ooh!" Holly agreed, "I want an orange sorbet."

"That works." Danny shrugged and headed over to the counter, "Three places, guy. Orange sorbet, mint, and...?"

"Mint."

"Mint. Really?"

"Mint." She repeated.

"Alright. I got this. You might want to grab that table before we're forced to eat this outside." Danny motioned to an empty spot. The mall security never took kindly to people who walked about with ice cream.

Patty took a few steps towards the table when her pink glittery phone beeped with a message from Vic (the Slick!) telling her to get ready for Paris this long weekend. 'Paris!!' Patty could scream, but she can't, totally not at Harrods. By the time she was done thinking, that Danny boy got the ice cream and was holding her order.

"Hey thanks," her voice dripped with honey then she took out the 'paul' part of the cufflinks and slipped-fastened that in a buttonhole on Danny's shirt. "We totally gotta go." Patty grabbed one mint ice cream for herself and the orange sorbet for Holly.

"But Gabby!" Holly wanted to stay, but Patty was already pulling her.

"We have class!" Patty urged Holly to a faster walk. Feeling bad for Danny, Holly stopped to wave goodbye, Patty just kept on walking.

"I think he was cute," Holly whispered to Patty when they were a distance away, "why didn't we stay?"

"Going home for the weekend," Patty replied, "and I don't date Americans."

"Yeah, nice meeting you." Danny said to no one in particular as the girls rushed away. It wasn't until he sat down that he noticed the Paul Smith cufflink on his shirt. One cufflink, meaning that she had kept the other one for herself. Of course, there was nothing else of her. She had left without a trace, and practically made him an accomplice. Sure, this seemed harmless now, he thought, but that bit of craftiness and kleptomania could make her the next Carmen Sandiego--everyone's gotta start somewhere, even if it was just petty larceny.
